We’ve all got games that we’re looking forward to this year. Today I’ve compiled a list of 5 games that are the ones to look out for. There is some bias involved here since what you’re waiting for may not be what I’m waiting for, but let’s take a look anyway!
No Man’s Sky
The vast vacuum of space awaits, with quintillions of planets, moons and stars to explore. It’s a game with four aspects, combat, survival, trading and exploration. You play as an explorer with the ability to travel throughout space and freely do anything that involves any of the four aspects of gameplay. Harvesting or harming planets too much will attract the attention of Sentinels. Robot guardians that don’t take lightly to this and will treat you as a hostile target. The one thing I like most about this game is the ability to get out of your ship and freely explore planets by foot. Something that I’ve wanted for a long time. Space Engineers does this, but there isn’t enough depth.
No Man’s Sky is set for release on August 9th, 2016 for PS4 and Windows.
The Last Guardian
The Last Guardian revolves around a boy, the character who you play as. The boy is attempting to flee from the ruins of a castle, but on along the way, he comes across an enormous, feathered bird-like creature, named Trico. The aim of the game is about developing a relationship between Trico and the boy. Adventure games like these are among my favourites because they’re heavily story driven with in-depth character relationships. I can’t wait for this to arrive!
The Last Guardian will be released sometime in 2016 for PS4. A specific date has yet to be announced.
Final Fantasy 15
The next instalment in the Final Fantasy series releases this year in September with FF XV. After playing the Platinum demo, I’ve become more intrigued by the Final Fantasy universe and me eyes have been set on FF 15 ever since. It’s an action RPG set on the world Eos where Prince Noctis and friends must retrieve the crystal that was taken from their kingdom, by Niflheim forces.
Final Fantasy 15 is out on September 30th, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One.
It’s been years since I’ve completed Mafia 2, and I loved it…well maybe except the ending, which could have been better. Ever since I’ve waiting for Mafia 3 to satisfy my thirst for a quality mob/gangster game, even though I usually don’t go for such games. Mafia 3 takes place in 1968 and around an orphaned Vietnam veteran, called Lincoln Clay who joins the black mob.
Mafia 3 will be released on October 7th, 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, Windows and Mac.
Yooka-Laylee (Update – delayed to Q1 2017)
Last, but certainly not least, Yooka-Laylee is set for release this October. For me, this is the one I’m looking forward to most, because of how much it reminds me of my favourite video game, Banjo-Kazooie/Banjo-Tooie. When it was first announced last year, a tsunami of nostalgia hit me and my inner child screamed with excitement. Yooka-Laylee revolves around Yooka and Laylee, who delve into the Hivory Towers to find Paiges in order to explore the Grand Tomes. While doing so, they must put a stop to Capital B and Dr. Quack’s evil plans to turn the world’s literature into profit for themselves. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Toybox coming soon!
Yooka-Laylee will arrive in October 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, Windows, Wii U, Linux and Mac.
